COVID-19 Update: A Message to Patrons Who Visited GALA on March 14

As members of the GALA family, we wanted to inform our patrons that an attendee at the Saturday, March 14 performance of Rigoberta, ¿dónde estás? has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Although the attendee did not exhibit any symptoms associated with the virus at the performance, subsequent testing revealed the positive result. The attendee is in isolation.

Concerned about your health and well-being, we wanted you to know that you may have been exposed to the virus. As a precaution, you should monitor your health and contact a physician if you have any of the symptoms associated with the virus. We also recommend adherence to the CDC recommendation on washing your hands and social distancing, and to instructions issued by local authorities regarding social gatherings.

At GALA, in accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the order of the Mayor of the District of Columbia, and because---as a family--- we care about our artists, staff, students, volunteers, patrons, and partners, we are taking the following actions:

1. The production of GALita’s Rigoberta, ¿dónde estás? has been canceled.
2. The main stage production of Tía Julia y el Escribidor has been postponed until next season.
3. The 2020 Noche de Estrellas on April 6 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts has been postponed to a date to be determined.
4. The Paso Nuevo after-school program resumes April 1 - online sessions.
5. The Stories from the Park 'N Lots story circle on March 21 has been canceled.
6. The GALA staff will be working remotely until April 24.

Thank you for your commitment to GALA and the region’s arts and culture organizations. We are appreciative of your support. As a close member of the GALA family, you understand the adverse financial impact on GALA and our peers caused by the COVID-19 crisis. That is why we are asking you to consider making a gift to GALA of any size that will provide critical support during this unexpected period.

Theater and the arts have always had the power to move individuals and create community. Now more than ever we must rely on each other to ensure our collective well-being, meet the challenge before us, and celebrate our spirit of resiliency and hope once again.

Be well and stay healthy…¡hasta pronto!
