Silenced Within Me is a dramatic piece created to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence in the Latino community. Based on interviews of survivors of such violence, community residents will also use music and movement to reveal the stories of the survivors and how the abuse affected their lives and their families. The presentation will also feature singer Maria Isolina.

Elia Arce, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Costa Rica, returns to DC after having worked with GALA to develop a dramatic piece with HIV positive women entitled No le digas a nadie/Don’t Tell Anyone in 1999. She works in a wide variety of media, including video installation, performance, experimental theater, writing, photography, video, sculptural performance and social sculpture.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts through its Creative Connections program; the D.C. Commission in the Arts and Humanities; Share Fund; and the Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs.

Tickets: $15 general public; $10 students, seniors, and military – General admission.
