Director of Education (Immediate Opening. Posted January 2020)

We are seeking a qualified individual to work in a dynamic, bicultural, bilingual environment as the theatre's Director of Education.


Responsibilities:

• Books school groups for all student matinee programs for GALA main stage productions (middle and high schools) and all GALita productions (elementary schools).

• Introduces the performances from the stage and moderates post performance talk backs with artists, teachers, and students after every show.

• Maintains a database of all Spanish teachers in public, private, and charter schools in the Washington Metropolitan area.

• Designs, produces, and distributes a monthly E-newsletter to the database of teachers and educators.

• Communicates regularly with teachers to discuss logistics and expectations for the field trips.

• Processes invoices for student matinee ticket sales, with assistance from the Office Administrator, and tracks sales.

• Responsible for the production of  bilingual  Study Guides (for both high schools and GALita elementary students), working with staff and scholars or specialists who can provide the content, including background on playwrights, historical and social context of the work, vocabulary lists, suggested reading, and classroom activities for follow-up.

• Consults with teachers to designate “Student Critics” and publish the students’ reviews of the performances they attend at GALA.

• Prepares and submits online grant reports for the Office on Latino Affairs grant (matinees and Paso Nuevo) and the United Way OST grant (Paso Nuevo).

• Provides support to the Paso Nuevo director, including assessing impact of program and securing technical and administrative support from staff

Qualifications:

• Minimum of college degree in Education, Latin American Studies, Literature, or Theatre.
• Excellent bilingual (Spanish and English) communication skills.
• Two year experience working in arts education or arts management.
